Chris Harlow has over fifty years of IT industry experience as a senior executive manager, consultant, and developer. Chris was introduced to the computer world as a graduate assitant at New Yourk University. As a Captain in the US Army, he served as the VII Corps Data Processing Officer.
His involvement with GIS began in 1982, when he directed SDGE's co-development of IBM's GFIS [Geo Facilities Information System]. He later formed Integrated Information Systems (IIS), IBM's first GIS business partner. Mr. Harlow is the founding president of AM/FM International, now known as GITA.
Chris directed the design and implementation of San Diego Gas and Electric's award winning AM/FM/GIS system. Introduced GIS to corporate executives in Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Denmark and elsewhere in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. He led the design, development, and installation of a countrywide AM/FM/GIS system for Malaysian Electric Co.
He presided over the GIS planning in Singapore, and managed the acquisition of Computing Solutions, Inc. to introduce GIS to large municipalities. Chris is a well known GIS consultant to major organizations including Apple, Unisys, Software AG US and Software AG Spain, SDGE, Consolidated Edison, Jefferson County (AL), Tupelo, MS and numerous user organizations.
He is a founding board member of The Center for the Study of Data Processing at San Diego State University, and co-chaired the GIS Task Force for SmartState Alabama. Chris is a widely known author, keynote speaker, and GIS visionary.
